Equipping Women with Valuable Job Skills

The Empower Women with Skill Development Program is a collaborative effort between the Giving for Good Foundation and Vision Rescue. This project aims to empower young girls, women, and the youth from low-income communities in the slums of Mumbai.

This campaign focuses on three slums - Kalwa, Mandala, and Shivajinagar, where our beneficiaries are provided with skill development courses to help them break free from the shackles of poverty and gender-based limitations. Our aim is to create an employable female force to achieve a bias-free and economically inclusive society.

Beneficiaries of the campaign, which include the mothers and sisters of children enrolled in Vision Rescue’s educational initiatives, receive specialized training under the guidance of experts. They can choose from a variety of unique courses, including Tailoring, Mehendi, Hand Embroidery, Fabric-bag Making, Culinary and Hair & Beauty. 

The courses vary in duration, ranging from two weeks to three months, depending on their complexity. These distinctive skill sets not only equip our beneficiaries for employability but also boost their self-confidence and self-esteem, ultimately enhancing their learning capabilities.

Students enrolled in these courses are personally guided with complete attention and are hand-held through every process until they become self-dependent. The professional team of trainers ensures a smooth and easy learning process, considering the limitations of the women. Vision Rescue also provides training inside the communities for women who have prior commitments and require flexible training hours.

The trained graduates unite to form Self-Help Groups (SHG) and Micro-Enterprise Development (MED) entities, taking their first steps towards entrepreneurship, where they learn more about expanding their skills and services. By fostering such community-driven initiatives, the campaign addresses generational poverty, ensuring that the positive impact extends beyond the individual beneficiaries to their families and communities.

The impact of the Empower Women with Skill Development program is profound. By supporting this effort, you play a crucial role in uplifting 185 women and the youth from Mumbai's slum communities. These vulnerable individuals gain access to unique training courses, equipping them with employable skills and empowering them to achieve their financial goals. Proof of this is Roshni, who went from having her education interrupted to opting for the beauty & hair course from the program and now earns a living for herself.
