Renovating a Sports Track for Dream Chasers

Sports play a crucial role in shaping individuals, enriching their lives with essential soft skills like sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, and perseverance, alongside specific athletic abilities. However, marginalized children in India often lack opportunities within their schools.

The Giving for Good Foundation actively supports Khelshala's 'Empowering Children through Sports' initiative. Since 2017, both organizations have jointly focused on enhancing sports facilities and opportunities for children from low-income backgrounds in Chandigarh, Punjab. The objective is to provide students with the best equipment, facilities, environment, and guidance to unlock their full potential during training. This project strives to introduce professional coaching for future tennis and squash players in India.

Khelshala, a non-profit based in Attawa and Majra, Punjab, was established by former Harvard coach Satinder Bajwa, aiming to empower rural communities through sports.

Since 2017, GfG has supported Khelshala by implementing a water management system at their facility, preventing flooding on the athletic track during monsoons. Building on this success, in 2022, GfG and Khelshala collaborated once more to redevelop a 200-meter athletic track. This fully functional track has reintroduced competitive and fitness-related activities that had previously come to a halt.

Khelshala's S.A.Y. program, integrating Sports (S), Academics (A), and Yoga (Y) for holistic well-being, has positively impacted over 300 children from low-income backgrounds. GfG has played a role in providing suitable equipment and training environments. Through after-school support and opportunities to engage in sports, academics, and leadership development, Khelshala has nurtured young talent, offering them a chance for a brighter future.

The fully functional track now enables coaches to teach students cross-training (X-Training) techniques, further boosting their fitness levels in squash and tennis. GfG and Khelshala are paving the way for a promising future for these children, their families, and communities by introducing quality sports facilities and guidance.
