Even with a deeply ingrained love for sports and the admiration and reverence we give sportspersons in our nation, not everyone has the chance to run out and play to their heart's content. Countless children belonging to marginalized communities miss out on the increasingly important milestone of ‘play’, without which, many lead an unfulfilled childhood.
In a country as diverse as India, with an uneven playing field and lack of opportunity to those who don’t come from privilege, Magic Bus India Foundation along with Giving for Good Foundation (GfG) have developed a programme that uses sports as a means to empower and enrich the lives of children and young adults belonging to marginalized communities.
The project will offer an opportunity to nurture talent in children and youth through specialized sessions offered by Magic Bus and impart valuable life lessons in the process. Striving to ensure they make the right choices as they grow, the programme hopes to inculcate lessons learnt on the field into a child's everyday life.
The future of every country and its society belongs to its youth. Investing in youth entails building a solid foundation for future leaders by maximizing their potential. The organization’s approach borrows from Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Ecosystemic Model, placing the primary stakeholders – children and youth – at the core of the universe. Drawing strength from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, Article 31 which recognizes and reinforces unequivocally each child’s right to relax and to play, the Sports for Development concept builds the 'Sports for Excellence’ programme.
With assistance from GfG, Magic Bus’s Sports for Excellence programme will deliver specialized football coaching sessions to selected girls and boys currently based in Delhi, India. Aimed at 3 years of training, students linked with this programme will be given opportunities to participate in tournaments, engage in quality physical and formal education, with additional opportunities to attend exchange programs, workshops, and definitive coaching sessions that will be held twice a week. The programme provides children practical exposure and opportunities to develop skills alongside their academic education. This unique programme will help children enhance traits such as determination, focus, motivation, discipline, and teamwork, along with increasing a child’s understanding of strategy, rules, and the importance of abiding by them. Developing a sense of equality and autonomy is also an increasingly important facet of the programme, to ensure a sense of self, and help children build independent identities.
The programme also aims to address gender bias. As the girls are empowered, given equal footing alongside male students, parents are also encouraged to send their daughters for sessions and school - sticking with the holistic development model of the project. Along with the right guidance and physical coaching lessons, this program will focus on the nutritional needs of children and conduct adequate fitness tests to monitor their performance throughout. With this project, we aim to create a safe space for students to learn through play. Growing children can largely benefit from the time they spend outdoors. This enriching environment helps contribute to their holistic development. Through this project we hope that the developed youth who benefit from the process will go on and provide mentorship to adolescents in the community. This would stem from the existing leadership.
This programme focuses on all aspects of childhood development. By working with marginalized communities, Magic Bus aims to deliver a programme that teaches life skills and resilience. Schools will ensure that these children attend regularly and optimize their education, featuring sports in physical education classes. As these children become adults, Magic Bus will work with them to ensure they have the right employability skills, get jobs, and contribute to their communities.
This project aims to ensure the holistic development of 150 children across a minimum of 3 years. The option to extend the programme by 2+2 years is then left with the students, as an important facet is empowering children to give them autonomy over their decisions. Sports for Excellence aims to empower children, enrich their lives, and give them a chance to live a better future. The programme will build and nurture sporting talent in North-west Delhi where Magic Bus has been working for more than 7 years.
Giving for Good Foundation encourages you to donate to this noble campaign that aims to develop the future workforce and gives them an opportunity to uplift the marginalized communities that lack recourses to unlock their full potential. Little help can go a long way in empowering a child, boosting his/her morale, and creating a future for him/her that is secure, abundant, and rewarding. Why wait, donate now!
